The Story behind Anthem of the Free

In 2010 David Ellis, Scott Savage and I were involved in the production of a song, Hope is Freedom, written expressly for Northrise University in Zambia. Since I was giving all the Sunlight album sales to Northrise, I wanted to include a follow up song, thus Anthem of the Free was born.

This song is actually based on two passages of Scripture:

Psalm 8:1-4

1O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
3When I look at your heavens, the work of yourfingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

and

1 Chronicles 29:11 (ESV)

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.
