The List

I have just returned from Nashville, TN CMA Fanfest 2011. A week long gig-a-thon in heart of Nashville’s fabled downtown Music Row where each year thousands of Country music fans descend on the scene for a week-long expirence that features the best (and maybe not the best) of local, regional, and national musical talent. For the next few weeks, I’ll share some insights for guitarists that may help you through one of the most fabulous and terrifying places to play in the world.

Whenever I’m around great players, I try to garner some bit of wisdom. Usually, I ask who their influences were, what their practice regiment is, etc. However, for my tour to Nashville, I decided a different approach. Any time I was around seasoned players, I would ask for “The List.” Basically what that particular player felt was hands down the finest guitar playing.

In between the barrage of gigs in Nashville, I was honored to have breakfast at the famed Pancake Pantry with Amos Searan, a gifted and renowned session/live player from Nashville country’s illustrious yesteryear. After he entertained us with stories about great musical moments and great musical indiscretions, I asked him to provide a list of players and songs that he considers the best guitar playing. He more than accomataed me.  He sent me a string of you tube links. So, without further ado, The List.  Enjoy:
