Pedal maker Zen?

Why is it that some pedal makers, over others, have a zen-like aura surrounding their pedals?  Pedals like:

Analogman sunface nk257
Keeley compressor
Klon centrar
Pete Cornish SS3
Skrydstrup OD2
The list could go on…

They all have a certain “vibe” when acquired,  played, and heard.
So why?

The Holy Grail: the SS-3 by Pete Cornish

First, one would think that it relates to quality, and others would say its relates to demand, others still would argue it relates really to the effect’s ability to replicate hit records of old. However, I have another theory:

It comes down to the harmonic nature of the pedal, one that plays well in several situations and setups. I believe the above mentioned all play “nice” with many types of amps and guitars. Moreover, instead of clones, (im thinking of pedals like the sunface) of big pedals of yesteryear, these new versions are often spot on replicas AND provide vast improvments of the original.

The OCD by Fulltone, another "Zen Pedal"

Also, its Costomer service.  Yep,  I believe indie effect makers who excel at answering questions via email and phone and are active on forums add pounds of zen to their brand that oft inspire guitarist to buy the makers entire catalog.

I think we all can agree, though the above list is by no means exhaustive, that we all have that “secert little box” that provides a little extra Zen to the craft of guitar.
