My Go-To Music Blogs

As a working musician, I don’t have time to sift through miles of websites that offer little to no help with the lighting quick changes in the music industry. Understanding how new trends in digital distribution, collecting royalties, social media advertising, and music in general is very important to me.  So, here is a short list of my essential go-to music biz or general music blogs.

1. http://www.musicthinktank.com/

Music Think Tank is one of the BEST authorities on the music biz and the wealth of knowledge is provided by people biz pros and artists alike. Every single blog post is relevant and useful. Everything from setting up your artist webpage to how do best situate yourself for a record deal.

2. http://wecreatemusic.ascap.com/

I don’t know about you, but I think is a good idea to pay attention to the organization that PAYS you for your music. I’m sure BMI also has a similar blog, but I’m an ASCAP member and along with their partners, they bring biz insight about trends and artists that are well worth reading.

3.  http://blog.kexp.org/blog/

Ever wanted to be on the cutting edge of new music? This is the MOST active music blog I’ve ever seen. Though it leans to the indie music scene, it still covers a broad range of bands, solo artists, in studio performances and festivals.

4. http://www.npr.org/programs/all-songs-considered/

I would be amiss if I didn’t mention the All Songs Considered blog from NPR. Its is a virtual treasure trove of new music, live concerts, and music trend coverage. It would be impossible to keep up with it all.

There’s plenty more out there, what blogs do you read????
